A substantial lead-glazed skyphos (wine cup) decorated on the exterior
with berries and pinecones on each side: the twin handles in green with
blue concentric bands on the outside and yellow on the inside.

Condition: Complete but with some professional restoration.
Early lead-glazed vessels, of which two-handled skyphoi are most typical, were probably produced in imitation of metal vessels (Vickers 1995). As can be seen by the typical lead-glazed ceramic here they are characterized by a green exterior and a yellow interior which mimic, respectively, the patinated outer surface and polished inner surface of copper alloy vessels. …
